Historic Places in Delaware
The state of Delaware was originally part of the “Lower Counties on the Delaware River” established by a land grant from William Penn who needed control of the river that gave access to his town of Philadelphia. With the establishment of Washington D.C. in 1791, the people of Delaware became even more involved in the political history of the United States.
Stonum in New Castle Delaware is the residence of George Read who signed both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
